FUNDS GIVEN TO FWO FOR DADOCHA DAM DEVELOPMENT

Dadocha Dam

The Punjab government has disbursed PKR 150 million to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to commence with the development work on the Dadocha Dam. FWO will start the work within two to three weeks, according to a news report published on December 19.

DETAILS OF DADOCHA DAM

According to the details, FWO will complete the work on Dadocha Dam at a cost of PKR 6.429 billion. A senior official of the district administration revealed that the land acquisition for the project was underway. Furthermore,  the authorities concerned had begun the payment process to private landowners. He assured that the land acquisition process will soon be completed. The official revealed that the contractor firm will start the work on diversion (flow pipe) and spillway in the first phase.

They will construct the dam on the Soan  River. Moreover, a lake in Dahocha village will store the rainwater from Kahuta and Murree hills. The water inflow in the dam would be 77,000 Cusec and the estimated outflow is 42,000 cusecs. WASA will construct a treatment plant along the mainline. This will provide drinkable water to the Rawalpindi city.

As many as 10 villages, seven in Rawalpindi and three in Kahuta, will come under the dam. The project will affect 218 houses, seven industrial and commercial units and other areas.

The total storage capacity of the dam would be 60,000 acre feet, dead level storage capacity 15,000 acre feet and the live storage capacity 45,000 acre feet. FWO will complete the project in three years.

WASA will build a treatment plant along its main line to provide drinking water to the Rawalpindi city from the dam. Moreover,

when contacted, Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood said the Punjab government has directed to start work on the project as soon as possible. In order  to overcome the water shortage in the city and cantonment areas.

DADOCHA VILLAGE

Dadhocha is a small village near Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Gakhars are a majority clan but village also houses a large number from Rajput family. The area is semi mountainous and part of the Pothohar Plateau. Authorities plan to construct Dadocha dam in the area.
